The following marriase statistics have been compiled by the Registrar-Gene-ral and given in the annual volume of statistics for New Zaafand—ln IS7">, of 3,209 women married, 921 were under 2t years of age, and 2,238 were 21 years- and over; 1,21U women married at the age* 21-2"», and :"i92 at the ages 23-30. Of ttie men married in 1875, tJ£ were 1 under 21 years of age. and thus, of every 100 men married, 2 - 0 C were nnder 21, and of every 100 females married, 23*70 were umkr 21 years of age. In the previous year tlie proportions per cent, were 1"31 and 27"07 respectively. These proportions differ greatly from thwse prevailing in England, where the proportion of the men under twentyone of those who many* is much greater than in New Zealand, and the proportion of women under twenty-otic of those who marry is less than the proportion in New Zealand, the proportion in England having been tn 1573, men B'2 per ceil*-., n>nd women 22"4 per cent. The corresponding proportions in Victoria, in t£74. were—men 2'70, and women 30"10.
