CONFERENCE OF ROAD BOARDS.

A conference cf tlie Waiareka, Kakanui, and Waitaki Road Boards was held this morning in the Road Board's office to consider the proposed County Division of the Province. There were present for the Wa'aveka Board Messrs. Jackson, Young, and Evans ; for Kakanui, Messrs. Gilchrist, Moore, and Aikenhead ; for Waitaki, Messr3. Honour, Young, F. Evans, Stjward, Fleming, Easton, and Duncan. His Worship the Mayor represented the Muncipal Council. Mi*. Gilchrist occupied the chair. It was proposed by Mr. W. Young, and sscond'fd by Mr. Aikenhead, " That in the opinion of this meeting;, representing the united Road Boa xls of Kakanui, Waiareka, and Waitaki, it- is necessary that there should be separate county administration for this part of Otago, together with so much of the late Province of Canterbury as has interests in common therewith. and by natural boundaries should be under the same administration." Carried unanimously.

It was proposed by Mr. If. Fleming, and seconded by Mr. Duncan, '' That in the opinion of the meeting the natural boundaries of such county would be as follows: —Commencing at the mouth of the Wainakarua River, thence following the south branch of the said river to the boundary line of the Waitaki Electoral District; thence following the said boundary line to its intersection with the southern boundary of Canterbury Province ; thence in a direct line to the head of Lake Chan ; thence north-east to the head of Lake Pukaki; thence by the eastern shore of Lake PuKaki and the River Pukaki to 'its junction with the River Tekapo ; thencs by a right line to the Hakateremea Pass; thencs by the Hakateramea River to the source of the River Pareora; thencs to Mount Nimrod; thence following the Hunter Range to the head of the Hook River; thence by the said Riv.r to t.e ocean; thence by the sea to the starting point—provided always that, should the district east of the Hakateremea River, and norfci of the Waitaki River included within the foregoing description, object to be comprised within the county of Waitaki, then the eastern boundary to be the watershed of the Hakateremsa River to the present boundary of the Provinces of Otago and Canterbury." It was moved by Mr. W. Young, and seconded by Mr. W. J. Steward—" That the resolutions be telegraphed forthwith to the members for the district in the General Assembly and the Hon. the Premier." Tliis concluded the business.
