A cruel practical joke was played by Sheffield Independent upon its local contemporary t'ie Sheffield -Telegraph. The latter having bsen suspected of somewhat unfairly appropriating the local cream from the columns of the Independent by annexing tho contents of an early copy of that journal, to revenge itself upon its transgressing neighbor, the Independent a short time sinca - issued a" singte?;ijumber concocted for the behoof, one particular item of news.bejbig a .graphic account of a horrid' murder. - The bait took. The Sheffield Tdejmph published the* account with, variations, to the great astonishment of the: townsfolk and to the delight of the Indzpindsnt, -
