THE GREAT SPEECH AGAINST TIME.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sir., —May I ask what was Councillor Grave's real object in speaking against time ? and, also, why Mr. Robert Lawrence Rule, reporter and part proprietor of the North Otago Times, played pot-boy to Councillor Grave on the occasion ? I also want to know what " became of the lemonade and a dash," as it does not appear from Mr. Rule's letter that our Municipal Demosthenes was invigorated and refreshed thereby ; and as t ris matter is just as important to your readers as any other portion of his letter, I. may be excused for inquiring about it.—l am, &c., Ratepayer. [We fail to see why " Ratepayer " should ask sucli questions. Mr. Robert Lawren-e Rule, for reasons best known to himself, has as much right to fetch brandy and dashes for Councillcrs as any other man.—Ed. E.M.J,
