OUR BOASTED CIVILISATION.
Much excitement was created in Dundee, Scotland, recently, by a hostile encounter, or, in plain English, a "stand-up fight," between two women, which took place in the presence of a crowd of spectators, numbering several hundreds. It appears from the account given of the affair by the Dundee Advertiser, that the fair combatants, having quarrelled at their work, agreed to give each other " satisfaction." Accompanied by their respective partisans they proceeded to Dudhopestreet, where a ring was formed, and the struggle commenced in earnest. Flying at each other " like wild cats," they fought several rounds with varying success, and then, as it was evident the battle would be a protracted one, an adjournment was made for dinner. Returning invigorated from the repast, the contest was renewed, and proceeded without interruption until some of the spectators declaimed that one of the two women had been guilty of unfair play. Others denied this, and, with a view of deciding the question, a general fight took place among several women present, who scratched and tore each other furiously until 3 o'clock in the afternoon, when, everybody being satisfied, hostilities ceased. Similar scenes, it is stated, occur at intervals in the same street, and it is suggested that the police might at least take the names of those who take a leading part in them. —Pall Mall Gazette.
