HOAXING BY THE POLICE.
Some annoyance and no slight incon" venience to many members of the medica* profession appears to have been caused by an official hoax alleged by the ''Medical Examiner" to have emanated from Scot-land-yard. The following advertisement, it is stated, lately appeared in the medical papers: —"Required a medical man to visit a patient once daily. Stipend commences £2OO per annum. Apply between eleven and one, on March 27th, 29th, and 30th. —A. Lloyd, 51 Judd-street." This pleasing prospect of high remuneration for easy work naturally created quite a flutter of hope in the bosoms of more than 300 doctors who applied for the post. Many poor struggling doctors travelled up from the country at a great sacrifice in the hope of securing the appointment. Their loss of money and time was, however, bootless ; for the advertisement, the " Medical Examiner" understands, was merely inserted by the police, who "wanted" a certain unworthy sion, and adopted this method to discover his whereab:outs;^lf ;: the)stpry is true, the police may theftiselves lucky in the event of no claim for compensation being preferred against them by some of the victims of this singular display of zeal and intelligence.
