POLITICAL NOTES.
Wellington, Wednesday,
Upon the House resuming last night, Mr. Whitaker moved his resolution, speaking for two hours. The Premier replied in a speech lasting for an hour and a half. Sir George Grey then gave notice briefly that he -would move resolutions for Insular Separation, the seat of Local Government for the North Island being Auckland; for the South Island,
Canterbury ; with "a Central Govern]* at Wellington. { A was take and Mr. Whitaker the lution was lost by 54 to 21. Agooddj <>f discussion then ensued, the Gova; ment declining to go on with any businj until Sir George Grey brought fornj, his resolutions. Ultimately, it was that he would move his resolutions t Thursday next, at 7.30, and the Hot adjourned till then.
Nelson, Wednesday STRUCK SILVER.
The following telegram, has been ceived from the manager of the Richly Hill Silver Mine :—"Struck ore in ; drive ten inches thick, and ten feet ft the shaft. The vein is rapidly tliict ing."
