DARING ROBBERY.
This morning, when Mr. G. Greenfield entered his office —the Shag Point Coal Depot —he discovered that some thieves had broken into it and had abstracted the cash-box, containing some money and valuable papers. The burglars, in order to effect an entrance, had removed some of the weather-boards, and, cutting a hole through the canvas lining, had managed to squeeze through into the office. The cash-box was kept in another large deed-box, the lock of the latter having been wrenched off. Alexander M 'Donald, the storeman, states that when he left the office on Saturday night everything was safe and locked up, and that the person or persons who broke into the place must have been well acquainted, with the particular spot in which the cash-box was kept. Had the thieves exercised a little more patience in their search they might have found some more money, but this they overlooked. It appears that Mr. Greenfield was out of town on Saturday, and it is probable that the thieves were aware of this fact. The police have the matter in hand, and it is just possible the offenders will be brought to justice.
