The Turners' Company have presented their freedom and livery to Lieutenant Cameron. They have also paid a similar compliment to Dr. Atherstone, for his discovery of the diamond-fields in South Africa. Both travellers declared that the only way of effectually dealing with the slave question was by opening up trading relations with nations in the interior. On May 2, Her Majesty reviewed the Aldershot division, consisting of 7,000 troops, in the Long Vailey. The weather was unpropitious, snow falling in the morning, followed by heavy rain during the march past. The Duke of Cambridge, with most of the Horse Guards staff, were present. A costume exhibition at the Alexandra Palace has excited much interest among the votaries of fashion.
