! Detective Browne (saya the "West Coast Times" of Thursday) returned Ja3t ' night by the Chnatchurch coach from the Tnipo, wiwttJne, with others, has keen prosecuting a search after the two little girt* who were lost in the bush last week. I'nfovtunately, however, notwithstanding the number of the search party, not the slightest trace has been found of the children. Since the last report, the party searched daily up to yesterday, scouring the buah in all directions in the neighbourhood. The searchers kept about a chain apart in a straight line, those who knew the bush Wing placed on the outside, and by cooeying one to another a straight line was kept. The river beds were searched by horsemen, and, indeed, everything possible was done to find the poor children. It is impossible to surmise in what direction the children wandered. Ft is just possible, however, that they may have fallen into the Smooth Wainihini, near which is the only spot where they could have been drowned. The cows which the little girls went out to look for were found on Thursday last by a neighbour, named Fitzgerald. A resolution moved by the Government for a vote of thanks to Sir Daniel Cooper for service* rendered by him in England in the interests of the Colony of New Smith Wales, was strongly opposed, and was subsequently withdrawn.
