OAMARU HARBOUR BOARD.

Tlig ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present : His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Dr. Wait, Messrs. Borrie, Lemon, Steward, and the Secretary. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr. A. H. Maude, as follows : "ToT. Forrester, Esq., Secretary Oamaru Harbour Board. " Oamaru, May 26th, 1876. " Dear Sir, —I beg to draw attention to the very unsatisfactory state of the present mode of working the tramways on the Board's property. " As it now is, all the tenants seem to use that portion of the tramway which, passes my store as a kind of siding, into which they put any loaded trucks to wait. This system renders the work necessary to get any trucks up to my store quite preposterous. " Only to-day, wanting two trucks to load for the Samson, I had first to shift seven loaded trucks, and turntable each one before I could get one of the trucks up to my store ; and while tho men were away fetching the empty trucks I required (which had to be brought from beyond the goods shed) four of the loaded trucks were again placed on the line referred to above, all of which had to be again moved out of the way before my men could get the second truck up to my store. "Trusting you will give this matter your kind and immediate attention.—l am, &c, A. H. Maude." Referred to Standing Committee. From the Provincial Under-Secretary, intimating that the sum due for locomotive, &c., could not be paid until the Provincial estimates had received the sanction of the Govemor-in-Council, but the Board woirid be recouped the interest thereon.

It was resolved—"That the Provincial Government be communicated with, stating that the Board notes, by a letter, signed by the Premier, published as a telegram in the papers of the Colony, that his Excellency has been advised to approve of the Provincial Estimates, and under these circumstances presumes that the amount due for engine and trucks can now be paid." FINANCE. The Standing Committee's report on the above was ordered to stand over for further consideration until the receipt of a report from the deputation of the Board now in Wellington. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Board went into Committee re the above.

ACCOUNTS. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
