RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. Before T. W. Parker, Esq., Jt.ivl. LARCENY. Frank Taylor was charged with having stolen, oil the 10th inst., certain articles of wearing apparel, from the shop of .Joseph Moss, clotliier, value £S 15s. 6d., an<l also a tarpaulin and tent, from the shop of Edward Grave, value £4 l"2s. (jd. Prisoner was remanded till to-morrow morning, for production of evidence. James Phillips was charged with having, yesterday, stoleii a swag, containing wearing apparel and other articles, value £4, from the Swan Hotel, the property of Thomas Henry Edmonds, labourer, Oamaru. It appeared from the evidence that prisoner had taken the swag from the bar-par - lonr of the hotel, and decamped: Information was given to the police, and Constable Smart very cleverly succeeded in capturing the thief, about midnight, lying in a shed, with the swag in his possession. Phillips was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, with hard labour. The Court then adjourned.
