ROUGH ON THE BAILIFFS.
The Brrco "Herald" says:—" Bailiff need not expect much sympathy, no mat} ter what misfortune bofall tliem while they are " professionally" engaged. A fetf days ago two ; young men left Milton to take possession of some premises, occupied by a woman who lives several miles froiM the township. They meant to pass their -time, pleasantly, for they took with thenj some refreshments, a pack of cards, and a box of dominoes. When tliey arrived at their destination the woman was out, and they effected an entrance without much difficulty. Having made everything secure,.anil before they took an inventory of the furniture and effects, they made a roaring j lire, put the kettle on, and lit their pipes for a whiff before tea. Suddenly they heard a series of bangs at the door, and before they could recover froir their consternation the owner of the ]we mise3 burst in and gave one of the bailifli' a well-directed blow which floored him, The other man tried; to get under a bed but before he could do so the woman lai< a horsewhip/; over a sensitive -.part of his; person with siich vigour_it|iat "he -bawlo4 for mercy.
