ASHBURTON KEEPS BALL ROLLING TWO ON THE THE CARD
Melrose and Selma Trots (From "N.Z. Truth's" South Island Trotting Rep.) A T Ashburton, there are two trots on ** the Racing Club's programme before acceptances, and there are big fields to choose from. In -the Melrose Trot there are 26, and m the Selma Trot, 32. ' The Melrose Trot finds Fleet Arrow on the limit, and on the form disclose ed at Wellington, Fleet Arrow looks the best of the limit horses. That is, of course, unless Logan Fraser chooses this time to disclose the form "Truth's" representative expects of him some day. J Lord Matchlight has been slow to reach his speed m shorter races, and some time ago m these columns it was suggested that a two-mile journey would see him to advantage. He has his chance here. Nya-110 Silk impressed at Wellington where his initial effort, was full of ! promise. v ' Mister Pointer was second m this ; race last year, going 4.41 3-5, and he should have won. On the time test he has the best of it, but he has failed three times since: r Derry Pointer is one that should like the trip, and she is generally finishing on m her races, while Real Huon may be the best of the others. Unless Logan Fraser comes to light, the winner may be Nyallo Bilk, Lord Matchlight or Derry Pointer. Liast Saturday, at Dunedin, Madam Locanda led most of the way, and recorded the smart time of 3.26 4-5, and as she escapes a penalty, it looks as though she will make matters interesting m the Selma Trot from the limit m the 3.2 class. Fleet Arrow is useful and the journey should suit Goldworthy. Useful ones on the twelve mark are Little Victor, Rafa, Sea Mist and Tiny Bingen, and of those further back, Real Huon may beat Checkers and Mister Pointer providing he begins well. Fleet Arrow and Goldworthy may cause Madam Locanda most trouble. -^immmimiiimmimiiiiimimiiiuiimiimiimmiiiiiiiimiimmiiiimiiiiii£
