CHARLIE NEAL LANDS BACON

8 SAILED THE VIOLAHOME NANETTE ROMPS IN FORINNES (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Wellington Rep.) IN the 18-foot and under class m the first of the R.P.N.Y. Club's races, only five of the fifteen entrants conipleted the course. Many m this class come from Evans Bay, and the hard northerly frustrated any hope of them getting round from the Bay m time. "Truth" suggests that the starter should be informed ' when the Bay boats are on the way, thus making it possible to hold the race up. The first class race was a real neck-to-neck struggle, and was thebest seen on the Wellington Harbor for many years. The Marangi, .Ailsa, Wairere 11,. Viola, Atlanta, Rona, and Wairere I, all faced ,the starter. The Marangi, showing fine form, was first past the blinker followed by the Ai'sa and Wairere 11. On the lead to the finishing line, the Marangi*- and Ailsa caught the Wairere II with the Marangi m front, at the finishing line by seconds only. *"'.:' The Viola, sailed by the veteran, Charlie Neal M Avyon oh corrected times with the Wairere II and Rona next . m that order. The late starters somewhat spoilt the second-class, race. Nannette,. Galatea, and Isca got away on time, followed by the Ir'ex, Linett. Shamrock, Miru and "Windward. The Galatea was first around the Datum Point buoy, closely attended by the Nanrjette, which came home an easy wiriner for h,er new skipper and part-owner, "Jeff" Innes. The outstanding, feature of this, event, however,' was the sailing of the. Windward. At; noon on Saturday, her mast was ".not even stepped, but her crew worked like demons, and although twenty-five minutes late,, she was m fourth place, at the finish.' -, The skippers of the Sanders Cup boats have decided not to sail m any more night trials. • Bill Duncan had no option but to call the.next'ser.ies of trials for the week-end, and the executive of the Evans Bay Club have fallen m line by postponing the races on that date. '■■■-'. The attitude taken by the respective skippers is meeting with much adverse comment, and it Is now left to the R.P.N.Y.C. officials to practically decide the Issue. It looks to "Truth" as though the skippers run the Sanders Cup trials. What is the use of a selector?
