TN the Progressive Handicap there A are a number of improving horses and it is m this class that we can-ex-pect the surprises. Among a number of horses on the limit that have yet to win a heat, is Sunny Morn, which won nicely at Gore last month, and that is a recommendation. . Scotty Bingen displayed fair, form as a three-year-old m the south last season. A three -year- old ,m Great Chenault. won at his first start m Greymouth recently, and as he won there under 1 adverse circumstances, he must be considered from the twelve mark ■ here. ' Black Watch went 3.32 2-5 to run second at Oamaru m his first start, arid on that form should again beat Ballade. Pc Kara will be remembered as showing a turn of speed, but failing to stay m a start at Oamaru last season. • Baby Joan finished a fair second at Winton last week, and Lydia Pointer has been racing well this season.
