MINOR EVENTS
Operatic May Make Them Talk CLAREMORE IN TWO (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) MINOR events at' Takapuna hop off * with the seven furlongs Melrose Maiden, which has drawn the usual big list of payments. There is nothing outstanding, though Chief Joy displayed some pace when he acted as runner-up to Bells of Shandon m a juvenile event at Te Aroha last autumn, but afterwards ran twice unplaced. Hollyholm has a reputation, and ran quite a respectable race m among the hacks at Te Rapa. Great Emblem has pace to display when, he becomes solid, while Karangapai was second over a furlong less to King Win at Te Rapa. The stable also have Gay Idea engaged, and this one is more than a hope. Spring Song sprints well at EN lerslie, but nothing is known to do . much better than Operatic, which registered two seconds over the distance at Avondale last autumn. His form is the best to guide punters, and he may find Karangapai his toughest opponent. The nine furlongs High Weight will have punters scratching, , though Sleepy Sol's second to Llanore over a mile at Whangarei was good form. Luminary, Trishna, Glenstar, Glena Bay, Stonehenge, St. Ames, Kairuri and Claremore are some of 'the probables, and maybe Claremore and Sleepy Sol will be m the final' fight for the money. Lightweights m St. Ames anJManawanua cannot be entirely discarded m the nine furlongs Ponui Handicap, but the form of Sir Mond, Claremore and - Principal is enticing for this class. If both happen to be reserved, Sir Mond and Claremore should be m the money, with Principal as their most dangerous opponent.
