WONDERFUL SMOOTHNESS

Hudson Eight Is Thoroughly Engineered Job

SIMPLIFIED DRIVING CONTROL With all its new modern details, the Hudson Eight is outstanding m its class. It is the most thoroughly engineered and most painstakingly tested car Hudson has yet turned out. In short, it is well-rounded, complete a,nd perfect.

THE wonderful smoothness of the great eight will immediately impress by- its very smoothness of operation. The, entire car 'operates with an absence of effort that cannot very well be described m words, but must actually be experienced to be fully understood. The power of the motors ' flows smoothly. It is completely , responsive to the accelerator and it is transmitted to the rear wheels with little gear shifting. The result is a driving control so simplified as to be free of any conscious effort, v Acceleration and getaway is lighting fast. The usual lag m pick-up and its attendant vibration are absent. to a surprising degree. In crowded traffic the great eight Hudson is off the mark before cars of average performance are through'their gears. . In the great eight the design of the engine is so aided by advanced construction, scientific carburetion, high compression and other features, that the engine develops great power, with exceptionally low fuel consumption. The Great Eight .is a full-sized car yet modern design has eliminated wasteful bulk, and scientific construction makes use of every ounce of metal. The Eight cylinder power plant' is of the L-head type. .'lt has a bore of 2% inches and a stroke of 4% inches,

giving a total piston., displacement of 213.8 inches. The actual maximum output is SO horse-power. The heavy, statically and dynamically balanced crankshaft rotates m five main bearings of generous dimensions. The, main engine bearings of the great eight are of patented design, which en-' sure perfect lubrication and long life. • { •a i " y. , The construction of these bearings is such that the oil film remains unbroken at all times, the surest guarantee of long bearing life. Connecting rods' are light-weight steel drop-forgings with babbit-lined lower bearings another feature. The construction, together with the plentiful lubrication provided for them ensures quick dissipation of heat and long bearing life. Special aluminium -alloy pistons combine light weight with great strength. Each of the pistons has two compression- rings and two oil control rings. .The two compression rings are a positive seal against power leak- I age and oil dilution. The two oil control rings prevent oil pumping, cylinder fouling and loss of lubricant. Great eight owners operate their cars at full efficiency without having to use special high -compression or non-detonation gasolines.
