IN the. last few weeks Sydenham have come to the fore with a jump m the Canterbury Rugby League competition, and are now looked upon as serious contenders for the Vivian Cup. . .'■ After -their displays earlier m the season, when they 1 played very ragged football, their present form is surprising, and is an indication as to what training arid enthusiasm can do. In defeating their neighboring suburb. Addington, on Saturday, they played a style of. football which has hitherto been foreign to them. - . ' Where formerly there was no method m their play, they now have adopted an •open game m which the backs throw the ball about m good style. It was their plan of playing an extra man m the backs on Saturday. ■■' which undoubtedly won the match for them, and L. Turton as the extra ' man did" all that it was hoped he would, do. _ ' ■ . He never got m the road of the rest of the backs when they were out on a run, but usually combined with them with the best of results. It was at de-. tfence, however., that- he was the greatest thorn m ■ Addington's side. He usually upset one of their backs before he could get far with the ball. ■.
