Outed For Life
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Taranaki Rep.) •THAT Rugby football players are :i * not to be allowed to strike a . referee with impunity was made abundantly clear at the meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union on Tuesday evening, when E. Roebuck, of ■ - Okato, was disqualified permanently from playing Rugby football, and also debarred for five years from holding office In any club. The incident arose when, near the close of the Tukapa-Okato match at Okato on June 7, Referee K. Nodder ; had occasion to order G. Roebuck off the field for talking back, and a little later E. Roebuck struck him, at the same time allegedly using language. At the union meeting on Tuesday, chairman J. McLeod made- It clear that the offence was a serious one. Referees must be protected, and severe disciplinary measures must be taken not only as a punishment to the offender, but also as a deterrent to others. , •
