HUNTING ENTHUSIASTS' DAT
Chasers of The Hare Will Hold The followers of the hounds m the northern portion of the Taranaki district invite the punting fraternity to go to the dogs at New Plymouth on Saturday.
'THE Taranaki Hunt Club will - step 1 ) put " m their regalia that morning and afternoon, but though they will enjoy themselves immensely they will not expect to make a tremendous profit on the day. ' v - Money is tight, even, m Taranaki, > and now there is that extra tax. '■_/■• • . .■• '■-•■■' '•■ ■ ■ ' I, The big 1 race of the day is, of. course, the; Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase and with practically a local representation •the event should be won by a local enthusiast. . • ' Waitaunaha is a safe conveyance and back to his form early ,. in the winter he would win. Then there' is Son o' Mine, but he made a mistake one morning at Trentham and that may have left its mark. ~ Huirangi Girl is the right type and she should be at her very best by now. Waitaunaha won last year, and Huirangi ■ Girl the year before and possibly the pair will again be m at the death on Saturday. . \ In the Maiden Hunters' Steeplechase the big-gest part of the field is unknown. . This type of race always pro-.
vides plenty of thrills and spills and it may be. so this week. When it comes to a matter of form there is only one there with any to recommend him. That is the Hawera rep., Copey, and he should be the favorite. There is a hurdle event for the hunters and as he has won two races m recent 'times Pikimai should be the elect of the crowd. ' He has a weak lot to beat and it seems only a question of his carrying the weight. The last event for horses which have spent the winter chasing the hare is the Hunters' Flat:' / In this race the public is going to get some sort of a line from races run earlier m the day. Calithe will no doubt carry his owner, but most of the others will be ridden by pros. In the list of acceptances there is a horse called Silvermine. If that is the Silvermine 'Truth" knows it would be a case of shut the gate. But it isn't. ; It really looks like Calithe to get the money.
