ALL EYES FOGUS ON PETONE

REVIEWING THE DAY'S CARD

Wrackeen, Arikitoa and Grandlight Will Be Troublesome In Chief Heat MINOR FIELDS NOf~A BRILLIANT LOT

' • . • • (By "The Toff") « The biggest item on the card at Wellington on Saturday next is the February Handicap for horses capable of negotiating two miles m 4.35. or faster. While the candidates are not a select lot, there is sufficient material to provide a good contest.

EDWARDS' S pair, Neerson ami Arikitoa, will command a good deal of attention. On Saturday last Arikitoa was a winner two furlongs from home, when he encountered a mishap that sent him to a break. But for that he was going so strongly that the first prize looked to be his. . At Wellington he is on 4.34; so is Great Logan, which, ran second to Omaha at Addington on Saturday last m 4.27 1/5. ... Also on the same mark as Arikitoa is that good mare Wrackeen. . She registered a new record for Forbury when she won over a mile and a-half m 3.21 4/5. Wrackeen only needs to possess a fair amount of stamina to be very hard to beat. Off the same mark, Vendome should not trouble her, and unless Wilma Dillon's staying battery has been bettor charged he will find two miles very troublesome. Avenger can go fast and can stay — when he likes. Jolly Pet has a fair chance off 4.33; so has Omaha off 4.301 At Addington on Saturday last he won m a similar class 0n. 4. 24 2/5, which, according to the fast state of the track, was equal to about 4.30. The Shrew also is on 4.30, from which mark she must have a splenri'd ohance; so have Bessie Logan and Real Light from 48yds. behind. When the ball is over and tho numbers go up, Wrackeen, Arikitoa and Grand Light may be the fortunate ones. The Hutt Park Trial Handicap is the opening event at Petone and is for novices. Judged by the easy manner m which Brent Zolock silenced the outfit m a similar class at, the club's recent fixture, the suggestion is that he can do it again. In the same race Great d'Oro finished third, so with a concession of 36yds. from. Brent Zolock she may be hard to beat.

Ulm, from the scratch mark, will be the biggest task Brent Zolock will have. Of the others, Lord Matchlight and Morrison may be handy, but, fined down, Ulm and Brent Zolock should carry most' support. In the Nai Nai Handicap one nrj.st consider Bright Light, which ran third m a similar race at Petone m Januurv. Tnmahine is a speedy mare when site is right, and Jock Bingen' and Admiral Bingen will make them hurry. Jock Bingen, Admiral Bingen und Bright Light should keep the opposition busy. Baron Bingen is on the front, of the handicap for the Railway Handicap, and it is time he saluted the judge. Denver City is a fair sort, so is Pleasant Wave. At Westport Nelsonian won off a 4.48 mark.

Most support no doubt will be for El Direct, Logan's Pride and Sandy Pointer. They look the pick of the card. ; The three-year-old filly Dusolina went a mile race at Addington on Saturday, and over a mile and aquarter m the Sharpe Handicap at Petone she should have a chance. The finish should see Automatic, Millie d'Orb.and Great d'Oro fighting it out. Boneta looks a likely winner m the Wilford Handicap, two miles. At the meeting held last month Jock Bingen beat Boneta, but on Saturday next he has to give her 36yds. Quickfire and Miss Leda may offer most trouble. Miss Leda is an honest' mare that will not be easy to catch, but when all is over Jock Bingen and Boneta , may heat Miss Leda.
