PORINAX is likely to be the first choice for the Wanganui Cup, to be run to-day (Thursday). # # # ' ' Reports to hand credit Cashier with being m fine shape, and his prospects In the Cup are much favored m these quarters. # *, # Freehold should run a big race m the Flying. The brother to Tamatete is fast off the mark, and a good position on the turning course will be a great advantage. # # # Unless rain falls the going at Wanganui will be hard and very fast. This will suit Cashier and Freehold. Will the Duncan Bros, land the double? # # # W. S. Glenn would much like to win the Wanganui Cup. In the Shade's recent form has been disappointing, but something better may be*expected from him at any 1 time. # # # Paganelll will be a warm favorite for the Jackson Stakes on Saturday after his brilliant performances at New Plymouth. # * * Colds are very prevalent among Wanganui horses at present, and several have had to be eased up m consequence. # ' # # Zarene Is back to form and she will be hard to beat m her engagements at Wanganui., There are few better hacks than the Chief Ruler filly when she is well. # # * Yoma ran second to Rapine m last year's Cup. He will have 201bs. -less to carry In to-day's race. # # * Rewatoa is a promising sort of gelding engaged m the Maiden at Wanganui. Potoaform is one of the fancies. # # * Ruanui is very well, and he should cut out a merry 8 1 /^ furlongs m the Stewards' Handicap. Consent, from the same stable (Fordell), is also likely to be handy, if started. # # • # Red Fuchsia is a cut above the other hurdlers engaged m the Westmere Hurdles, and though he has a big weight (12.5) he will be favorite. • (

There was a lot of money for The! Warden m Wanganui on Saturday. Some would-be backers could not get on the supposedly "good thing," and no doubt they were thankful afterwards. # * * Equitant is m rare form, and the Fordell-trained filly will make Hard Words and Co. do their best In the Juvenile Handicap. # # # Hinewai, a filly by Chief Fuler out of Rewa Rewa, gives promise. She will be a runner m the Juvenile Handicap. # # # It will only be the distance, if anything, that will stop Cashier from putting up a great showing m the Cup. # ► # * The Petre Hack Handicap will take some sorting out, unless Cadland is fit and well, m which case the rest can have little chance. Next to Cadland, Zafene reads best. She may even extend Cadland if at her best. # # # Freehold should set a torrid pace m the. Flying, but Silvermine and Lady Quex will make him do his best at the end. # * * Arlsus can gallop, and if he jumps away right he may keep them all busy m the Juvenile Handicap for a while. # # * Those looking for a dividend might find it profitable to have a bit on Kentish Lad m the Petre Hack. The best of this gelding has not yet been seen. #. # * When Paitonu takes it into his head to gallop he is very hard to beat. He may be worth watching at Wanganui. #' * * If Whenuatonga jumps the big hurdles as well as he does the low schooling battens he will win a few hurdle races for C. Gordon. The Acre gelding is to run over the sticks at the Rangitikei meeting. # * # Star Area knocked himself while galloping recently, and M. Gardner had to be easy with him. This accounts for the gelding not being paid up for m the Stewards, but the Acre gelding will probably be a runner on Saturday, as he appears to be all right again. #. # # Fernden is also to be kept for the second day, when he is likely to show that he can sprint with the best. It is feared he may never race again as a result. # # # After . attending Wanganui meetings m the capacity of a trainer for thirtyfive years F. Tilley will witness the racing this week freed from the cares and responsibilities of a mentor. It will be a' strange experience for him. # t' # • # The Wanganui course has been a lucky one for Vern. Colello, and he has, hopes fortune will favor him with Shrewd m the^lup. #- # # Fernden is going along nicely, and he should be at the top of his form, at Wanganui this week. He does not gather up pace very quickly, and this will tell against him on the turning course. However, with a bit of luck he will pay a dividend at the meeting.
