WHY NOT AT AVONDALE ?
TAKAPUNA TRACK
Not Giving General Satisfaction
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) On the same day as Cliff. Eastwood met with his mishap at Takapuna, Relation's racing career was ended. TAMIESON'S charge was made a hot J favorite for the Ferry Handicap m a big field, and while rounding the top turn faltered and was pulled up with a broken shoulder, which called for his destruction. These incidents caused a little adverse comment regarding the nature of Takapuna's race-path, but m reality they were liable to happen on any track. . When the rain came along on the morning 1 of the second day, it looked risky to carry on, but the weather cleared towards mid-day, and it was pleasing to note that the racing was conducted without mishap, and with some fair-sized fields, too. Still, no one is ever sanguine about racing at Takapuna with its many turns, and all hope for the day when Avondale and Takapuna combine m some manner so that the racing will be conducted on Avondale's roomy track. Then, and not till then, does it seem the racing public of Auckland city will receive the fair deal it is entitled to m the matter of up-to-date appointments. With eight days' racing a year at Avondale — four days from each club as at present — there could be no excuse for not installing the electric tote and providing modern stand accommodation at Avondale. It seems no one can reasonably hope for an automatic tote at Takapuna, though at Avondale there may be some chance m the future. , . The wonder is that the Racing Conference or the Government do not force the suggested proposal on to the clubs conoerned.
