Luck Was Out At The Taranaki Meeting
LIECTOR GRAY, Taranaki's own 1 - champion rider, was riding at New Plymouth last week for the first time since his come-back. He received a great hearing frona local sports, who showed m no uncertain way that they still regarded him as a peerless horseman. His services' were m great demand by owners, too, ;as he was m the saddle m all but one out of the ; fourteen, flat races. . • His luck was dead out, as the very best that he could do was three seconds. Summed up commercially, Hector proved a dead loss to his followers. •Out of a total of £ 45,933/10/- invested on the machine 'both days, no less than £ 8167, or nearly 20 per cent, was invested on Gray's thirteen mounts, which returned punters £1888/17/-., or a loss of £6778/3/-. However, Gray's popularity m Tarfe.naki as a -rider helped investments on the tote.
