INELIGIBLE TO START
Unique Reason For Withdrawal
(From "N.Z. Truth's" South Auckland Rep.) There'were three horses which were ineligible to fulfil their engagements at Matamata for an unique reason. THEIR withdrawal had its origin m the recent prosecutions at Hamilton when convictions were recorded for betting with a bookmaker. The horses of the owners concerned are automatically ruled out, m the meantime, at any rate, so far as starts m races are concerned. There is a hope that the owners may get back. It depends on the Conference. There Is the precedent m this connection m the South Island cases of a few years, ago. After certain clients of a wellknown Christchurch "bookie ?l had their medicine from the court they were pardoned by the racing powers that be. It will be interesting to see what happens when representations m the Waikato cases are placed before the authorities with the "washout" appeals tagged thereto.
