BAD VALVES
Misfiring. Test Insecure The idea that there is no trouble with the valves just because there is no misfiring is one that costs a large number of owners a great deal of money. THEY complain of loss of power, but * refuse to agree with their repair men that the engine needs attention to the valves. It is frequently the case that all of the valves are seating poorly. This results m loss of an equal amount of compression m each cylinder. No one set of valves is so bad as to encourage a backfire or a complete loss of compression. No one set is so perfect as to encourage its cylinder to deliver power out of proportion to- the others. Overlooking the possibility of poor valves all round, the owner is strongly tempted to assume that his power loss Is due to cai'burettor trouble or perhaps to weak ignition. He may go to the expense of installing a new carburettor or even a new ignition coil.
