Winners of Pennants
Competition
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) The final of the Christchurch Club's rink championship, won by the rink skipped by Alf. Dlckson, resulted m an exhibition of steady bowling with the element of luck entirely absent. DICKSON had with him his son as lead, Will. Atkinson and George Lewis, and the Tunners-up were Munro, W. Newburgh, Dr. Pairman and Dr. Sandston. Dickson gained an early lead 11/4 and 16/8, but then Sandston's rink came with a rattle and with a succession of scores which included a five he gained the lead before Dickson scored again. Dickson was two up with two heads to play and m a, close finish won by a point. The winning skip has had an interesting record m bowling m the South Island. He was originally a member of Milton and then later of Taierl and played his first N.Z. tournament game as a member of BUI Carswell's rink which was defeated on the 22nd. heat after a measure m the N.Z. championship the year it was won by W. Barnett, of Christchurch.
Dr. Sarfdston has been bowling well this season and he went down fighting. He had a chance on the last head for game, but it was spoilt through his failure to be up with " his first' bowl. Jennings, who has been skipping consistently m pennant play for Christchurch this season, put up a great performance on the 20th head m Saturday's pennants against a Linwood rink skipped by Laurenson, who had with him as third Kinvig, the partner with whom he won the national doubles title at Wellington last year. ' Redpath continues to send down a useful bowl on the Canterbury green and retains all his old style and confidence. Some of his pennant play this season has been of a high standard. The pennant competition has concluded with United the winners with 74 per cent, of wins and Christchurch second. Linwood and New Brighton were well up on the list. Bob Haworth of Linwood had a , titanic struggle against Dr. Marks In the last pennant game of the season, beating the doctor by two points. Both skips were drawing well. Frank Sargent and Claude Piper, one of the best known pairs playing m Canterbury, narrowly lost the Christchurch doubles, championship, going down to George Lewis and Will. Atkinson, who won the event last year. Sargent and Piper had an unlucky run at Dunedin and have not shaken it off yet.
