ROI L'OR'S DUNEDIN CUP

Mishap Possibly Cost Wrackler Big Event At Forbury

' . • (By '/The Toff"). Thanks to a quick beginning", and also through, obtaining a good position near the leaders, Roi Lor avoided a' mishap four furlongs from home m the Dunedin Cup, and, staying on m determined style, he won by a length from the consistent, but unlucky mare Jean McElwyn. ,

MAIWHARITI made the pace Lo ! A within a; few yards of the mile and a-half disc, where he. made a bad break and disorganised the middle pait of the field. The worst suff ei;er was Wrackler; which was holding seventh position m a bunch that was closely following Maiwhariti. When Maiwhai-iti did his circus

trick he caused Wrackler's driver, M. Holmes, to be thrown heavily to th« ground. Quality was pulled up and Holmes returned to the birdcage m Quality's sulky, with C. S. Donald holding the reins. After the accident Linkman made the pace, with Roi LOr, Athalone i Boriny Logan, Daphne de Oro, Jean McElwyn and Glideaway all being m a bunch. j Turning for home, Linkman was un- ! der pressure and faded badly m the last half furlong, being all out to finish fourth. Both Bonny Logan and Daphne de Oro failed to pull out an extra effort m the straight, Jean McElwyn and

Athalone defeating them for second and third money respectively. King Pointer raced without a shadow blind. This probably was the cause of him making three breaks during the race. Just whether Wrackler Would have beaten Roi LOr is a moot point. He was pacing well Within himself, and

was well enough placed when the accident occurred. Judged by the easy manner Wrackler was pacing, it is certain that he would have looked Roi LOr m the eye m the straight. Which of them would have won remains unsolved. After losing his driver, Wrackler paced once round the course, during which he made a tangle and cut one of his forelegs just near a tendon. A vet. examined him and pronounced the injury as a minor one. It might not affect him m his next engagement. The winner, Roi LOr, has been one I of the sensational young pacers ■of the past two seasons, and- is booked to I contest the championships at Perth m March next. .
