PRODICE'S LATEST
The Reason For Wellington Cup Withdrawal
IS GREAT MONEYSPINNER
(From "N.Z. Truth 'sV Special Auckland Representative.) Had the main army of punters known the full facts regarding Prodice's last-minute withdrawal' from the "Wellington Cup trip, the daughter of Catmint would hardly have returned the good/price she 1 did m the Takapuna Cup. :
FACT is, her trainer-owner was seriously bent on going to Trentham, and orders were actually given to dress Prodice for the journey, while Frank Loomb went 'off to complete the rail . arrangements. -When he returned home from making the arrangements he found that his charge . had encountered some trouble m the paddock and was displaying a ."filled" leg. . Then it was decided. to call the Wellington trip off, arid subject Prodice to a •slight dose of physic and a few days' rest. . . V The filling soon went down without leaving any ill -effects and Prodice was got ready to complete her Takapuna Cup engagement. When stripped for that event no fault could be found with her condition, except that' she went down m her preliminary as "scratchy" as is her usual habit. , . . The stable ; connections were riot keeping secret their belief that ithey expected her to show up prominently. When it came to racing, she reresponded gamely to the call of Bert Ellis from the ihorrie turn and filially touched off Corinax — which had ' made most play out in' front — by a neck: Frank Loomb is at a loss to
know what caused Prodice's leg to fill as it did prior to' 1 the proposed Wellington trip. He is inclined to put it down to a sting from a bee or some insect. The daughter of Catmint has proved a gold mine to Loomb, and has earned the few months' rest, the Te 1 Awamutu owner-trainer intends to give her. Frank 'still has ideas' that she will stay out two miles, and next season probably will ;note Prodice ,once again making an ''.attempt to win either the N.Z. or Auckland Gup — perhaps both. Prodiqe ; evidently i s partial to the Takapuna track, for during the last twelve iriorilhs she has won an Alison -Cup;,. Takapuna Cup and a T.J.C. Handicap', besides acting .'as 'runner-up to Flying Juliet m the Takapuna Cup Of 1928. : y ■: In all, she has won upwards of £7000 m stakes on' the. turf. This is a great return for -a ,filly which cost 500 gns. as a yearling. She was. purchased by her present owner from the breeder, Dr. Millsom. At one stage of her career Frank Loomb, had 'prddice on offer to a^ prospective^ buyer- a!t *SQOO - gnsi, but she has since worilmdrW" than that 'amount. If she never wins ■ ariother stake she promises to prove valuable as a stud matron.
