SOURCE OF WORRY

OINCE she arrived m New Zealand *^ from Scotland three years ago, Elsie Green has caused ■ her sister much anxiety by her inability to keep a position and her general mode of living. . Her* theft of a pair of shoes from her sister finally broke the patience of the latter, who informed- the police, with the result that the girl is now to receive other supervision than that which her sister could give. When Green appeared before Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., m the Christchurch Magistrate's Court- on a charge of stealing the shoes, Chief- detective. J. Carroll said that the theft was not a very serious matter, but there were other factors which led to her being charged. The girl, who is 21 years, of age, had been « source of worry to her sister since she arrived m New Zealand, he said. She would not stay m any position, and had been dismissed from about a dozen places for theft and laziness. Green was sentenced to • the Borstal [Institution at Wellington for a period [ not exceeding two years.
