BIRTH OF PYJAMA NOTIONS
You Just. Think and Think
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Paris Correspondent)
Marion Glenat is one of the most' Parisienne of Parisiennes. In her lovely apartment m. the Rue Clement Marot she sits and thinks and thinks, imagining novelties and new thrills mdc luxe lingerie. Yesterday ( she gave a cocktail party at which were presented some of her latest inspirations. The walls of her 'house are all painted a dull, yet fresh, green. Plain beige velvet carpet covers all the floors, and m each room we find three or four antique treasures, not more. Taffeta silk cushions, and dozens of the most modernist cushions complete the setting.
MADAME MARION told me that AVI everyone is asking her for undies that follow the lines of the new fashions. Straight stuff has practically gone out, and flares are the rule, and more and more handwork with "Point Turc" as a favorite medium for incrustations. l . This particular stitch is the most reliable, and can be depended on, but is very tedious to do. - A smart embroider can only do about three inches an hour, so no wonder the cost of it is high. " .. ' ' One of the prettiest sets of lingerie presented was of white crepe de chine. The x nightgown was tailored, with a shirt collar and no sleeves. The shirt front, was outlined by a garland of incrustated rose petals, m two shades, I pale pink and deep rose. The knickers and brassiere followed suit. Another set was of black georgette, with large Chinese roses incrustated In a large all-over This was stunning. A boudoir wrap accompanied this set, and an adorable little corset of black satin and rosebuds' gave the 1929-30 touch. Pyjamas were featured, generally with a three-quarter coat to accompany them. A delightful .'garment of this kind had pyjama trousers and Chinese coat of strawberry- colored satin with blue, 1 black and gold embroidery, whilst the coat was of gold lame brocaded m the same colors. A wide gold sash, with long gold tassels, was tied at the waist.' The mules- worn with this suit were of lacquered wood and were signed Bentivegna, and the mannequin carried a lacquer cigarette case to match the mules. Although fine handwork, which j somehow seems to suit grandma's ! days, is more than ever m demand, modernistic notions have crept into lingerie ideas, and one can feel the decided influence of the skyscraper, which is supposed to symbolise modern inspiration. We 'find geometrical designs and^ incrustations of straight bands and contrasting colors. •• ! One nightgown struck, a very new note. It was flared just 'like an evening dress, m; apple-green satin, was tied loosely _ at the waist, and embroidered with golden . wattle. A. gold-colored triple ninon, with incrustations of turquoise blue, pink with black lace, and blue m three different shades, were amongst the most successful color schemes. The cocktail success of the afternoon
was a concoction bearing- the suggestive name of "tiger's breath," and deserving it. ' ' With the elaborate tendencies of this season's clothes, gold seems to - fit m very well. It is to be found on many models, but particularly m accessories. * At the "Boeuf sur le Toit," one of the best-known night clubs m Paris, I noticed; a ; woman who was dressed m a decidedly charming way. Her frock was all black, very full about the hem, quite long at the back, but above the ankles m front. The bodice was very plain, and moulded to the figure, with a decollete to the waist at the back..
To lighten the sombre effect of this all black gown, she wore al ong scarf of 'gold tulle tied at the back of the neck . m an enormous bow with the Ion? ends of the gold tulle falling below the waist. The slippers were of black and gold brocade, with brilliant-studded heels, and Ehe carried a black bag with an antique gold mount. *■■■.• Have you. a thigh-length coat? If it has cuffs trimmed with tur, try wearIng- it as I saw it done the other night by a very smart woman. - She was garbed m a black velvet gown, accompanied by one of these .short coats, trimmed jwith large ermine cuffs. • Instead of wearing the coat m the ordinary way, she placed it over her shoulders, wrapped the garment tightly about her hips, and let the large fur- trimmed sleeves drop behind, thus^ forming a sort of cape, end giving Immense distinction to what might have appeared to be quite a simple bridge ensemble. Tours, . MARIE.
