FOR COUNCIL
Weighty Problems To Discuss
(From "N.Z. Truth's". Dunedin Rep.) ARISING from the recent tournament are one or .two questions, which may well cause discussion at the annual meeting of the Dominion Bowling Council m .July next. One is as to the best time of the year to hold the gathering. The second r eek m January is the accepted time for making a ; start at present, but. this period has many obvious disadvantages. - It follows immediately on the Christmas and New Year holidays, and therefore prevents warehousemen, manual workers, and hundreds of those who follow other occupations from taking part, because they have just returned to business from their annual leave. Again, the Weather generally has not, settled down so early. It Is an exception, if ever, to have anywhere an unbroken fortnight In January. February is a far more settled month from the weather point of view, and on this account alone a change of date is worth consideration. / Then there is the method of running the different events. This year the first two days were allotted to the singles competition and at the close of that time six were left m. That half-dozen were compelled to wait a full week before they, could gel any further. Had three days been se^ aside, the competition could have been finished outright. This is a matter worth talking over. ' Two days were also allotted for the pairs competition. When that time was up proceedings were about half-way through, and at least five days had to lapse before the many couples left m could make . another move towards completion. If three days were allowed for the pairs there wou'.d be very few left m, and much inconvenience would be saved.
