TRUMBLE TALKS
Not Enough Field
Practice (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) I That great cricket authority, . Hughle Trumble, who has been of lowing closely the doings of our men against the M.C.C. team, has pointedly emphasised the weaknesses of New Zealand cricketers In the field. HE has pointed out that if we desire to advance m the great summer game, more attention must be given to practice work m the field. ; How often do local cricketers spread out on the Basin and indulge m practice at catching the ball? They are content with a strike at the nets and a turn with bowling. * Good fleldsmanshlp, though often a natural gift, can be afiqulred, also, but only after solid and consistent practice. Taking a look over the standard of cricket m the lnterclub matches so far played, "Truth" is of the opinion that much progress has been made, and&thls d.espite the fact that the players Rave been considerably handicapped by weather conditions. It is obyious though that room m plenty exists for still further improvement. Our players appear to be obsessed must be centred on becoming prowlth the Idea that all their attention ficlent m batting and bowling and that catching and fielding are of minor Importance. The second Test between the M.C.C. team and New Zealand caused an interruption of the inter-club matches m Wellington and it was only natural that public interest waned somewhat m the resumption of play on Saturday. With most of the leading players absent m Dunedln participating m the Shield match against Otago, the lesser lights had an opportunity to display their powers, but taking things generally, the standard of play m most of the matches was of the ordinary type. ! .I'liiiiiiiiiniiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiHiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiMiiiiiiiiii
