Champion Claims An Engagement
Champion (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special' Auckland Representative.)HPHOUGH some people have been under the impression that Gesture A had no-further classic engagement as a,two-year-old, the crack juvenile figures m the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, to be decided at Ellerslie on Easter Saturday. ' ' ::■--- The official book programme shows that the distance of this season's Champagne has been extended from six to seven furlongs, and as Gesture's strong point m all her juvenile successes has been the inclination to stay on; it really looks as if Rod. Murphy's hohday purchase has only to be kept right to have a mortgage on the stake. It is a "thousand-pounder," first money being £600, second £200 and third £.100. The other hundred goes to the breeder of the winner, provided that the horse is bred m the Dominion. The list of those remaining m at present includes Hampton Park, Pomp, Hard Words, Tenterden, Praise, Royal Ruler and Bells of Shandon. '.
