TOO MOD FOR WESLEY TEAM
Varsity "A "Showed Way Home v (Frop "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) Realising that the senfor championship was at stake, Varsity! A took the field at Karori Park on Saturday m their match against Wesley, determined to keep their lead on the ladder. DOTH sides were equally optimistic -as to the. chances of victory, but . the superior work of the Students' halves and forward-line enabled them to run out winners by two goals to nil. Wesley put up a hard fight, "and never at any' stage did it appear that Varsity had an easy task; m fact, the match was iii dou_bt, right up to within, a few minutes of the finish. | The showing of the students was not very convincing, and, no doubt, this -was due to the absence
of Ferris, Simpson and Paul from the vanguard. A, . An improvement will ' have to beshown if Varsity are to win their final game on Saturday against Wei- | lington. . ' In goal, for the students, "Davis--dealt effectively with all that came his way. Br v c-e Massey and Vietmeyer, as the last line of defence, played very solidly and held the

On the left of the van, Lewis was unimpressive. He was repeatedly pulled :up by the referee for offside play and obstruction. „ y y ; ■ ■ In goal for Wesley, Boys was kept busy and brought off some good saves. He had no chance "with the two which got past him. ' y A • But for the brilliant work of. Tom O'Callaghan, at right full-back, the score would undoubtedly have been much higher. .'"" .-- Balchin, left full-back, opened shak- V ily and let his side down badly early, i, m the piece with a "spec/ hit which .;: faffed to come off.
