Jack Steele Stages A Come-back
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Christcliurch Rep.) ' Can skill, and knowledge, defy ,ag«? Jack Steele, hero of a hundred games m all quarters, from Greymouth to Twickenham, gave an answer, m the affirmative at Lancaster Park, when he assisted Canterbury to administer a drubbing to Southland. JUDGED on his club form this season, Jack's light appeared to have definitely faded. He was not iri condition and he • cared little whether things came his way or riot. But it. was a different Jack Steele who paraded m the red and black uniform on Saturday. Certainly, towards the. end, his condition failed 'him 'and. Ire heaved, a sigh of relief each time the ball found touch, but right through the game Jack was looking for something to do. v During the progress of club football, this season "Truth" has criticised Steel's play, but this paper Is also first to hand him the palm for staging a come-back as he did against Southland, ■ Jack, m his heyday,' was one of the best international three-quarters playing, the game, and he has not lost all his* skill. He is .still carrying a good deal of surplus condition and if he. troubles to get some jof this off he will do a lot more service for Canterbury before his sun definitely sets. ''
