AUCKLAND CUP
Stake Reduced and Limit Slackened
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.)
The Auckland Trotting Cup is
.one of the chief events m the Dominion andjfor that reason im- ' portance is always attached to the conditions applied to this two-mile heat. I AST year,, the event was worth *** £ 2200 and a gold cup valued at 100 guineas for horses that had done, or been handicapped to do, 4.27 or better while the limit was 4.27. . T|his year the Auckland cup is worth £1650 plus a gold, cup valued at 100 guineas.
It is open for horses that have done, or been handicapped to do, 4.28 with a limit of similar proportions.
With the value of the stake dropped by £650, the club evidently deemed it advisable to let the limit out one second. Whether this will appeal 'to the majority remains to be seen.
pONCLIFF is standing up to what he has been asked to do on the training track and looks like remaining sound. The "peacocky" pacer has an abundance of speed and when at. his best can also stay and the best has not been, seen of him since lie came to the Dominion.
THERE "are few better gaited pacers at Addington than the John Dillon horse, Wilma Dillon. He won the mile and a-quarter with ease, and if he goes on the right way will reach high honors on the race track.
JV/[R. D. Hickinbottom has been ap- * pointed handicapper for the trotting events at the North , Canterbury Racing Club's meeting on Labor Day.
