BAD MARBLE
Taneriri Should Do Better
(From "N.Z. Truth's"- Auckland Rep.) Though Taneriri failed to secure a. place in.the Jellicoe Handicap at , •Ellerslie on Saturday last he must not be entirely discarded. TN reality, for one of his. slow beginning tendencies, he drew the worst possible position, No. 6 at the barrier, and before the field was properly settled down, he was pinched back to last, though he had one behind him racing out of the straight and down the back, through the, middle stages. He was still second to last going up, to the five-furlong rise, but then commenced to make up some of the leeway and was actually m the fighting line handy to the leaders a furlong from home. ; However, the effort had been too much, but it was of such calibre as to prove that the relative toHoariri is a promising stayer. The trouble with Harry Rama's four-year-old is that, being a notoriouslybad beginner, he is mostly going to be up against it on turning tracks m big fields up north.
