HIS LATEST
Promise As Stayer And Fencer:
(From "N.Z. -Truth's" Auckland Rep.) • It woultf^not' be surprising if the six-year^qld Calithe eventual* ,'ly developed Unto a stayer of some note, i '■••-" ■ ■-■'•■. '■■•■'"' AT one stage of his career he was the *y joke -.of turf circles, but of late he has 'been improved and, placed to such purpose that he has won twice. It is true that' he has' 'beaten nothing: of- real promise;- but he has done both jobs well; over middle, distances, and is plainly a vastly better horse. He is one of the few Calif ornia'ns •m commission, and coming from a V Lethe mare there seems every pro- * mise of Calithe doing better thingsin the future. The Ladies' Bracelet crowd he defeated at Pakuranga fixture included a few well-seasoned horse 3, though of moderate quality, and it took 2.25 3/5 to complete the ten -furlong journey, but had it been a case of "go" all the way; Calithe could have chopped several seconds off the time registered. He was going too easy out m frqnt m the run home as Foxhound made a Ind.and the Taranaki nag had to be shaken up. < But once shaken up, Calithe had. no difficulty m leaving a gap of four lengths between the pair when .the judge was' reached.
