Faulty Jump Probably Z Made Difference
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) There are not many "odds oh" . favorites made m hurdle events y these days, but Master Rowley had every, right to that distinction' in .. the 1. Hunters' crowd at Pakuranga. UOWEVER, the "good thing" did! not ** materialise, despite the fact it had "been said that the son of Cynics
had run a stinging good trial at Te Rapa— in fact, good enough to win. a Jellicoe Handicap.
He took the eye pleasingly m his preliminary and * was certainly going comfortably m behind the leaders for the first half of the journey, then ran up' to them at will' only to make a bad jump at the third fence.
This cost him several lengths, but he soon made up the leeway and looked "odds-on'/ rounding
the home bend m front,
However, Soami, a born jumper by Quin Abbey from a Spalpeen mare, rushed up to the leader over the last fence and beat the favorite home by three lengths.
