Looking well enough to take on the world, Honour, accompanied by. the three-year-old, Jaleux, left for Sydney last Friday.
PERCY MASON is m charge of the party, amd the farewell exchanges before leaving Ricearton were typical of Percy's pessimism. The stable, however, looks hopefully to the Limdnd' colt to bring home the bacon m the A.J.C. Derby. There is just the same doubt hovering over Honour as there was about Mollison last year, and Honour's critics are expressing doubt about his staying capabiliI ties.
Since returning from Australia j*n the autumn Percy has given Honour a lot. of solid work with occasional sprints, and it is no exaggeration to say that he is the boldest galloper at Ricearton. Track watchers have not seen him going with his best f oot forward since the autumn, but' the. work he has had has brought .him well forward and he will not want much '. topping off when he spreads himself at Randwick. He wiir get some, racing to fit him before the milev"and a-half classic comes up for discussion.. .
In Comanche, Parkwood and Holdfast, Honour will' be meeting class three-year-olds, and though his breeding suggests speed before stamina, he possesses such brilliancy that his supporters are prepared, to see him break up the field with his early speed. If he runs tip to expectations m the Derby he will probably be taken on to Victoria for the. Caulfield Cup, but Percy stated before he left that he was not too keen m taking on the big Caulfield handicap. But that is what everybody would expect Percy to say.
. Jaleux has been Honour's track companion since the
autumn and he has been
taken over to fill a similar position m Honour's Derby preparation. . ;.'.. Praise, the full-sister to Commendatio;n, I dropped out of the party at the last minute, but was not unexpected, as little had been done with her. She. is good enough to keep and the Mason touch \ will come m with her later.
