Oriental Remanded For Sentence (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) When Yee Kong, a youthful Chinese laundryman, interested himself m a young girl m Christchurch recently, he failed to take into account that European hotelkeepers are blessed with an average, amount of intelligence.' KONG'S infatuation for a young white girl led him to induce her to engage , m a dubious association with him, and he selected one of the elite, private hotels m Christchurch to carry out his purpose. ; ■ ' Kong enticed the girl to engage accommodation, and told her to tell the proprietress that it was for herself and her brother. But Kong overlooked the fact that she was white and he was yellow. The hotel proprietress did not, and when Kong put m an appearance he learned that Chinese guests were not accepted. '" They went elsewhere and later Kong was taken into custody to appear ultimately at court charged with a serious offence. ' . ■ . The Magistrate, Mr. E. C. Lewey, who heard the case, ordered that the name of the girl should be suppressed, and also the names of any witnesses, and the names, of , any places that would lead to the identity of the girl. The girl's mother said that the child was slightly sub-normal. Acting-detective John James Halcrow said that a couple of days after the occurrence he went with the girl to the building where the offence happened, and found that it would be easy for anyone to gain access to the premises. y
Kong pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.. Baih was allowed m two sureties of £100.
