THE SADDLE EVENTS

Bessie Logan Coming Back To Form

(By "The Toff.")

Nelson Price has been so successful with his horses m mile races that it was no surprise to find High Jinks made favorite for the Dasti Handicap. ON this occasion, however, the moody pacer was not on his best behavior and m no humor to go, hence he was never prominent. Sahib, which. did not look as well as usual, was very quick to begin, and, with Lady Matchlight, went away fast, followed by Grey Cloud, the trio getting a break on the field. Lady Matchlight settled Sahib at the end of half the distance, but a quarter of a mile from home Grey Cloud went on and headed her. Lingfleld was slow to go away, and her stable companion, Nelson McCormack, was more prominent till the straight was reached. \ Marshal Neil was apparently putclassed m the race, as he did not show up at any stage. Rebel went too unsteadily, although showing a lot of speed m patches. ' i There was not a strong numerical field for the same event on the third day. Chef proved the' favorite. Lingfield was second fancy. Chef soon put the issue beyond doubt, as, going down the back, he showed a fine burst of speed, which parried him to the head of the field. There was a great race • for second place between Bessie Logan, Harvest Child, Logan Hanlon and Jean McElwyn. Bessie Logan got the verdict. Chef is only a four-year-old and showed exceptional speed when first put into work. He seems to be better m saddle than . harness. Bessie Logan looks now as though she is coming back to her best form, and she may be found m good twomile races before the end of the season.
