A GRANDLIGHT
It Shone To Purpose In Islington
; (By "The Toff.") The Oamaru pacer, Nelson de Oro, was favorite for the Islington Handicap, but he gave a poor showing, after facing prominent m the early stages. QRANDLIGHT scored a well deserved win. It was his first success, but he has raced very unluckily. In May, 1928, he started off as a four-year-old by finishing second to Return Voyage at Oamaru m a mile and a-half race. He was three times m a place last season m nine starts, gaining fast times on each occasion. Grandlight paced a fine race on the second day m the Belgium Handicap, m which he finished fifth. He is a very quality looking colt by Matchlight from Our Aggie, a mare brought by J. Bryce from Scotland when he came here some years ago. , Grandlight, like most of his sire's progeny, is a capital stayer, and now that he has broken the ice with a win, may mave further successes. He is trained and was driven m his race by J. Bryce and ran the two miles m 4.31 3-5. The North Island Great Delight, which is a rare stayer, finished well m second place, whilst Delightful, which went his best race to date, was third. Sunny Bob showed some of his true form m this and was fourth, but Lady Cello, after racing with the leaders m the early stages, did not finish on too well.
