IN Welter races Waicullus has shaped as if a middle distance would not be beyond him, but although well handicapped he only ran moderately m the August Handicap at Flemington on Saturday. ■ Three furlongs from home he was handy enough to the leaders, but he did not go on with it. That finishing run that he has always come to light with m welters was conspicuous by its absence, and he finished very weakly. Out of his class, he will not win over a middle distance unless the company is weak.
