(Taihape): A pound of apples, ■> sugar to taste, a few .cloves or a. strip of i lemon rind, a pint of milk, one egg, slices ; of stale bread spread with .butter. -' Stew the apples to a pulp with the cloves or lemon, and only one or two' . tablespoonsful of water to prevent the apples from burning. Sweeten to taste and put the pulp m a pie-dish. When cold, cover with a layer of thin slices of bread and butter. Beat the. egg well v mix the* milk with it, add a dessertspoonful of, sugar to it, and pour into the pie-dish. Bake m a slow oven until set.
