Q.: My neighbor's pigs have entered ; my property and spoilt a crop. I shot one of them. (1) Am I liable for' so doing? (2) Can I claim damages for the injury to my crop?— " Fed Up" (Tauranga). A.: (1) Yes. (2) Yes. Q.: Two years ago I purchased an article, agreeing to pay for it by instalments. lam now unable to keep these up. lam under the age of 21. What is my position?— " Urgent" (Christchurch). A.: If the article was a necessary you will be liable. If, however, it was a luxury, you can renounce the agreement and return, the article. You will then be freed from further liability. Q>: A motor-car has been left m my yard for about two years. I have re- : peatedly demanded that it be removed. What is my remedy? — "Homie" (Dunedin). A.: You should inform the owner by registered letter that unless it is removed within 'one week you will charge £5 per week storage. If he does not remove it he will then become liable for the storage. Q.: • I am the manager of a certain business. During the recent election I displayed a political notice m favor of one of the candidates m the window of the factory. I was ordered by the chairman of directors to remove it. I refused to do so unless a resolution of the directors was passed m the matter. I have now been forced to resign for insubordination. Have I any redress? — "Bell" (Ponsonby). A.: No. Q.: J put a busines sM.n to an agent's bands for sale, stating that I would sell for a minimum of £90. The agent sold it for £120 and paid me only £90. Is he entitled to the ' remaining £30 ?— "B.C." ■ (Auckland) . A.: He must account to you for the whole amount less his commission, which should- not much exceed £5. If he refuses to pay you the remainder you should take action against him. V Q.: (1) Does imprisonment for life mean that the convict is incarcerated until death? (2) What is imprisonment "for the term of natural life"? — "Red Bus" (Ruakituri). A.: (1) No. It is actually a sentence of 21 years. (2) This is exactly the same. Q.: For some time I have been troubled with pigs trespassing on my property. I have no legal, fencing. (1) Can I claim damages for injury done to crops? (2) Can I shoot the pigs? (3) Can I impound them on my property? (4) Have I got to notify owner before I impound them? (5) Does the fact that my property is not fenced prevent my claiming damages? — "R.M.D," (Te Puke).. A.: (1) Yes. (2) No. (3) Yes. (4) Yes. (5) No. The obligation is on the owner of the pigs to prevent their trespassing. As to unfenced land pigs are on a different basis from other stock. See Section 14, Impounding Act. Q.: Have the Crown Lands Department any prior claim to a man's life insurance money before his wife and family m the event of his not leaving a will? — "Wife" (Te Papapa). A.: No. Subject to certain conditions it is not available for the payment , of your debts.
