FOR SPRING Straws Will Be In Evidence

Felt will undoubtedly remain popular right inio the spring because its virtues are ho many and varied. It is soft, supple,, easily worked, and can be. packed witnout difficulty, which is an important requisite m any hat. IT can be procured m a great range of colors, and will stand hard wear . better than straw. "White felt is perfectly delightful for sportS hats, and pink felts are almost universal wear for bridesmaids, and will probabiy remain so for some months. When the really hot days come, our felts will have to be laid aside, but they still have some life before them. In favor of straws we have their novelty, for we soon tire of one style, and the new straws are an entire change. They are light and cool, and many are as soft and pliable as feltMany of the new weaves are charming, and a ' becoming, lacy effect is given. Fancy hemps are seen m a wonderful variety of designs, and fancy ci ins are very dainty, but won't stand much wear. ' Those old favorites, baku and ball ibun tie, are back again, and they can be worn either perfectly plain or trimmed with flowers. There. is to be more trimming this year than for many a long day, and we'll even see a few picture hats, with large flowers decking one' side. The new shape will be very becoming to young faces and smail features, and it-Viil be very kind to our complexions m summer. The cloche remains the model, wnh an exaggerated droop at the sides and a narrow brim m front. 1 The poke bonnet is also copied m some models-, with a long scoop brim m front, and none behind. Some of the smartest hats have an uneven brimline to match the clipping hemlines. A close-fitting model m grey baku was bound and trimmed with a narrow band of blue, and the brim dipped deeply at one side, with striking effect. Of white silk erin with a touch of white lace under the brim Avas a poke bonnet shape, ideal for ! the jeune fille. A blue lace weave hemp was trimmed with rows of flat velvet flowers m blue and lemon. The sides dipped deeply, but the brim turned up at the back. 'Equally becoming was a green erin trimmed with a band of gold flowers on the brim m front, while the sides drooped low. A dainty pink baku with one side wider than the other was finished with an inset on the crown of rough lemon colored straw. Felt also combines well with velvet, and two different kinds of straw can be used together very effectively.
