Wairarapa Downed
(Froni "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) ■A-'.' fast pace was set m the representative fixture, Wellington v. : Wairarapa, m- "the capital. The result, 3-0 m Wellington's favor, by-:, rio'omeans represented the- 'true merits of;. the teams. , ..;'-/ UOR the 1 , greater ■ part of the game *■ \Wairafapa were, ever oh', the attack; ,'their - -vanguard exploitingv.the short pass fairly^, successfully, ■ but ,ppor shooting..m arred their efforts > to. jsoxne extent:/,-, ■ ' • ' • :. However.: in' the last fifteen minutes of the game the loca|. : m£n made: desperate, attempts to score "and . were successful m getting three shots "past the "W"airarapa goalie. . .•' . : , Candidly speaking, the display 'given by the local vanguard' was far below expectations. Well supported by their halves, combination was conspicuous by its absence. Guy, m goal for the local team, did all that was ■ asked of him, two saves m particular, being brilliant efforts. Kiwi Per ri n, right full-back, was outstanding, his efforts being of the h igh c s t order. Time and again he came to the rescue and ■ extricated- his side from dangerous situations. • • The: promise shown by Falconer early m the 1 season seems to have disappeared,, his play on Saturday being of a very mediocre order. At right half, 4 Joblin was inclined to wander infield and, consequently, the opposing left wing was unmarked. The other two halves,. Pyle (centre) and King (left 1 ), put m plenty of good work, especially m spoiling tactics. !' ..■• On the left of the vanguard, Algar Judd was the weakest/link m- the chain. He should realise that a wing's position is near the side-line — not m the centre of the field. ' . . : -
As usual, Bob- Lusty was. a toiler all. the way, spending most of his time endeavoring to get a little combination going m the line. ; ,-■•'. Ferguson, at bully, was not a success. The bully is undoubtedly the player who should set combination m action instead of waiting upfleld for opportunities to come his way. Hoare made quite a good showing at inside right and was unlucky on a couple of occasions with good attempts at goal. On the right of the van, Stan. Roberts gave glimpses of his :best form and little fault could be found with his wel^- timed centres. ' . . ~. ■ , The visitors were quite a good combination, their short-passing tactics being a pleasing ! feature of the game..., ... . -,■ . However, not enough use via.a made of the right wing, and far too much crowding by the inside men was noticeable. The efforts of Sayer, In goal, were quite, good anctehe had little chance >_ of stopping those which got 4 -: past him. v ''The two full-backs, Smith and C. Bannin, did some fine . work and gave a good all-round display until near the end of '.the. .game when' they to rise:, to thje occasion;' ' ■ ; • " ; Of 'the half-line,. Bill Bannin •. gave- a masterly display. His clever •stickwork and' feeding ofv the van must' 'have been an eye-opener to the local team.,.'' 1 /•' "Curly" Whitburn, centre half, gpt through a heap of good work, but was inclined to give his left-winger too much of the ball.'.;' ;-, .'-"•• 'V%/ At. right-half, Kverett flgxired m every?r' thing tliat came his way- and dispatched the ball to his van ln ; good style.
